design, service + education

My name is Precious Bugarin.

I’m a creative director, designer and educator. I use design as a language for equity to connect nonprofits to supporters, students to design aspirations, entrepreneurs to bigger audiences and diverse voices through creative events.

Let’s work together!

Let's Get Busy is a speed date style event, connecting nonprofits to consultants in branding, graphic design, web design, social and strategy created by myself and Toni Tabora-Roberts. In the first year of hosting the event we successfully connected organization Harpers’s Playground to Factory North where they partnered on the creation of a new website and connected JOIN to Portland State University’s Graphic Design Program where students rebranded the organization. 2019 will be our third year of this inspirational event and we have planned more partnerships and synergy happening between nonprofits and Portland’s creative community.

The Action Center is located inside Mercy Corps’ global headquarters and serves as their exhibit and teaching and learning space. Visitors and students can learn more about how Mercy Corps is tackling the world’s toughest challenges through lectures, exhibits and classes at the Action Center. I’ve worked to conceptualize, design and plan the update of all exhibits in the space along with the in-house branding team. Come visit the space in person for a deeper look!

I worked as the lead designer of their brand from 2005-18— tasked with designing their community writing anthologies, where I completed the design of over 40 books in 13 years as well as creating their yearly gala materials and associated branded collateral.

"City Club of Portland is a nonprofit, nonpartisan civic organization dedicated to community service, civic education, and leadership development.” City Club brought me in to design a research report and conceptualize information graphics about Portland’s city government and if its commission system equitably represents Portlanders.

Swaim Strategies approached me to create concepts for SMART’s anniversary gala. I created three concepts for the mark and supporting branded elements. Event branding and invitation design is a love of mine and my past work in the wedding industry has been featured nationally in Martha Stewart Weddings and other related publications. Today, I use the same attention to detail and creative savvy I used in my wedding work to support nonprofits and orgs. that want to get the word out about their events and fundraising activities. "Mercy Corps is a global team of humanitarians who partner with communities, corporations and governments to transform lives around the world.” I work with various arms of the organization to design and package research and outreach materials at the local and global level. During the summer of 2018 I worked with the Technology for Development group to produce an annual report about Mercy Corps partnership with Cisco. Click to view the full report.
