ruth asawa is a japanese-american artist who pushes the envelope with her unconventional use of everyday materials. she studied basket crocheting in mexico, which led her to make the amazing metal sculptures above. she also experimented with paper and wood, creating one-of-a-kind pieces while emphasizing the integrity of the materials. her eye for line and space–as well as her exploration of materials–is definitely something to be admired.
