Tina Roth Eisenberg is Swissmiss and runs the fantastic blog, swissmiss as well as her design studio in Brooklyn. She was here in Portland at W + K last Friday to lecture about her journey to New York from the Swiss alps and her success as a designer and blogger.

While growing up in Switzerland, she was greatly influenced by Swiss design and the amazing scenery. It was in March of 2005 that she began swissmiss. Her site is filled with her personal visual archives of all things captivating and enlightening. Since 2005, her blog has grown into a sought after destination of an average 600k visitors a month.

When she arrived in New York her reaction was, “Wow, this is America, this is different!”

The photo above of toast is part of her thesis in grad school, “The Beauty of Everyday Life”. She took her camera everywhere she went, photographing a plethora of things. Her number one rule is always have a camera with you at all times. Some of her random snap shots were found and bought by companies, it sometimes pays.

“To be  honest, I don’t like the word ‘blog’”. Tina would like to see that word gone and a blog viewed as a normal part of any website.

Tina was a great pleasure to listen to. Her attitude toward art, design and her career is lighthearted and filled with enthusiasm. Her bright smile and open personality made for great conversation between herself and the crowd, thanks Swissmiss!
