I picked up these gold seals and foil letters at an estate sale this weekend, they seem very fitting for fourth of July party invitations. I wish I had about five more boxes of these letters!

We designed the save the date (loving stamps right now, so versatile!) and invitation to feel like old handbills. The party was set on a beautiful outdoor estate on the edge of a running creek.

Krista hand painted a birthday banner that Marcella made — L O V E L Y! Go Krista!

The party took place in a small rustic barn. Decorated to evoke turn of the century barn dance parties.

Marcella made and installed all of the decorations. These banners were strung all over the property and were lovely swaying in the breeze.

Marcella also made the cake! A super tasty lemon cake filled with walnuts and lemon curd. The cake decoration was inspired by the draping fabric and setting; an old time classic birthday cake. BRAVO Marcella, a picture perfect and amazing party. A. and I danced the afternoon away!

Tomorrow Jessica Hische will be in town to lecture as part of the PSU’s Friends of Graphic Design Be Honest event, and you can be sure that we will be there. It is hard not to adore Jessica’s type and illustration work, and we are so lucky to get to listen to her talk about her design process and work in person! This lecture is open to the public, so get on down to the Ford Building at 7:00 if you are in Portland.

on valentine’s day A. took me to astoria, oregon — one of my favorite towns in oregon — for a weekend getaway.

astoria is at the mouth of the columbia river as it meets the pacific ocean. sunny days are quite rare and we were so lucky to be there for one of them!

we stayed in the new commodore hotel. a historic hotel recently renovated in a vintage / modern style. the lobby was super cool with a collage of found items that evoked an image board describing the city.

astoria is full of historic buildings and victorian homes. a few spots are super quirky and i love it. check out this boat on wheels that serves fish and chips! they were closed though :(

we had breakfast at the blue scorcher; a sweet bakery next to another favorite place, fort george brewery. we had a lovely trip!

If you’ve been visiting this space for the past year you know that I am a knitter. Knitting allows my brain to relax and focus on fine muscle movement. While watching the Hurt Locker I knit this thin merino ribbon scarf, a super quick project that I hope to make more of in colors, stay posted!
